How To Cope With Stress And Time Management When Studying

By Michael Rooney on April 18, 2016

The end of the semester is right around the corner, and the overwhelming feelings of stress when studying for finals can easily take over. However, with several tips to dominate stress and time management, finals will seem like a breeze.

Take Advantage Of All The Time You Have

This includes your time in between classes, your nights off, your school’s reading day, and whatever free time you can use to prepare yourself.

Make A Planner

When studying, chances are you still have to make time for meals, laundry, cleaning, your job, and other responsibilities. This is where stress and time management are most important. If you plan out your day, you will get an idea of what obligations you have have, how many you have, and how much time it will take to complete them.

Consistently Take Breaks When Studying

You should always make sure you are putting the books away and relaxing every now and then. You should also try to set your mind on something else by putting on music or a television. Even if you think you won’t finish your assignments in time, not taking breaks may only do wonders to your stress and time management.

Study In A Comfortable Area

This concept cannot be stressed enough because the environment you are studying in affects your span of attention and motivation. It is always important to choose a quiet place to study. Then again, you should also be comfortable when studying, and if doing so outdoors in a relaxing spot helps with that, then this is another good area.

Ask For Help

No matter how much you have studied on your own, studying with assistance from someone is a smarter method. Whether you get your friend, roommate, parent, or professor to help you, you will feel more confident about the material you are studying because it is always good to know that someone else is on the same page as you.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

This one is plain and simple. If you don’t get plenty of rest, you will not be able to stay focused when studying. Of course, depending on your schedule, you may not be able to get a full night’s rest. In that case, you could always try taking plenty of naps to catch up on missed sleep. Time management comes in as you try to find time to rest up.

Turn Off Any Unnecessary Technology

This may include your smartphone. If there is any device that may be more of a temptation than an aid, you should shut it off to avoid being distracted and wasting time when studying.

The weather is getting warmer, the calendar is moving along fast, and it is almost time to relax for a few months. To all college students with finals coming up, hang in there! You will be on the beach soon!
